David Myles Lewis is a versatile and accomplished composer and producer for visual media. He has written music for networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Netflix, FOX, USA, Hulu, Peacock, Paramount + and PBS, as well as for clients like Cadillac, Dropbox, GAP, Vogue, Peroni, and more. He is most notably a composer for the show Survivor on CBS.
A graduate of USC’s Screen Scoring Program, David utilizes a vast repertoire, influenced by Indian classical music, African percussion, jazz, pop, and modern electronic music. Whether working with a director to create a musical narrative for film or helping to unleash an artist’s creativity, Lewis is a remarkably intuitive and expressive storyteller.
David grew up in a musical family. His father, Michael Lewis, an internationally renowned tabla player and member of Zakir Hussain’s Rhythm Experience, exposed him to world music from an early age. David started playing piano in second grade and began composing at the age of eight. By twelve, he took up the drum set and spent years crafting his own distinct style. As a teen, he studied with Walfredo Reyes Sr., Khalil Shaheed, and Kelly Park and began playing regularly with college jazz bands.
David received a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he continued studying with some of the world’s finest drummers, including Terri Lyne Carrington, Ralph Peterson, Dave Dicenso, Mike Mangini, John Ramsay, and Rod Morgenstein, among others. After graduating and touring with his bands, First Circle and A’tris, he moved to Los Angeles where he continued to perform, tour, record, and produce.
A solid, articulate, and dynamic drummer, Lewis is a seasoned player who has become one of the most sought-after live and studio musicians in Los Angeles. He has performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in music, including jazz icons Mike Stern, Joe Lovano, and Richard Bona, rock/pop artists The Weeknd, Louis Cato, Vince Neil (Motley Crue), Robby Krieger (The Doors), and George Thorogood, Mirror Talk and world music groups Arohi Ensemble, and Sheila E.
In 2011, David formed his jazz quintet, The Dave Lewis Group, and released a solo album featuring some of the most recognized jazz musicians in the world, including Jay Oliver, Bob Franceschini, Oskar Cartaya, and George Brooks. Lewis also spent over ten years performing with Mirror Talk, an electro pop group, releasing five albums and making a considerable impact on LA’s music scene. He is also a longtime member of the Indian world fusion group, Arohi Ensemble.
After a decade of performing and touring, Lewis was drawn to the world of music production and film scoring. He collaborated with Madame Gandhi on the film, Lanka, a documentary produced by Vogue and Gap. Lewis was then commissioned to score original music for Dropbox, Cadillac, and Teen Vogue. This inspired him to apply to USC’s Thornton School of Music, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Screen Scoring.
Most recently, Lewis has been composing music for network television as one of Burnett Music’s most in demand composers. He is a prominent composer for the show Survivor on CBS, as well as many other reality/competition programs including Shark Tank, On Brand, Destination X, Temptation Island, Generation Gap, Claim To Fame, The Real Love Boat, The 2024 Paris Olympics, American Gladiators, Beat Shazam, Ring Nation and the Real Housewives Series. He recently finished composing music for the film Arsonland, by Emmy Award winning and Oscar nominated director, David Darg, as well as Jack and Lou starring Linda Hamilton. Lewis has worked on many other films/shows, including He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Netflix) Held (Magnolia Pictures) The Kissing Booth 3 (Netflix) No Ordinary Life (CNN) LOL (Lionsgate) NYAD Trailer (Netflix) the Main Title Theme for the show Generation Gap (ABC) and countless others.
David is a thoughtful, forward-thinking, creative artist. He is focused on the journey rather than the destination and owes every success he’s had along the way to hard work, encouragement, passion, and the support from his music community and family.
